Question:

I have some questions about a truck hitch for my 2026 Silverado 1500. I have a intech flyer chase mini camperweight is 1300 lbs not to exceed 2000 lbs that I want to take off road. Nothing serious, but some hilly terrain and washboard roads. I was looking at the gen y hitch GY27VR because I have a max coupler for the camper. I have read that gen y phantom are not recommended for off road. I was looking for your thoughts and any other recommened hitches. Thanks

Thanks for writing in.

You are correct about the Gen-Y Phantom # GY27VR. Since GEN-Y does not recommend the Phantom for off-road towing, I would not use it for the hilly terrain and washboard roads you are planning on taking your Intech Flyer Chase on.

Since you already have a Max Coupler, I would actually keep it. The Max Coupler is giving you the articulation you want for uneven terrain, so I would pair it with a solid fixed ball mount rather than changing everything over to another off-road coupler system.

Now, if you do want to make the swap to a complete Lock N Roll setup, that is a great option specifically designed for off-road towing. For your Silverado's 2" receiver, I like the Lock N Roll Articulating Hitch with 3-Position Channel # 336VS503505. If you need more height adjustment, you can go with the 5-Position # 336VS503515 instead.

After looking at pictures of your Intech Flyer Chase, it appears you have a straight channel coupler mount, so you will want the Lock N Roll Articulating Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # 336TS528 for the camper side. If your camper does not have a straight channel coupler mount, just respond directly to this email with a picture of your current coupler and how it attaches to the trailer, and I can get you the right one.
