How to Determine the Correct Ball Mount for 2007 Honda Element Towing Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer

Updated 07/11/2014 | Published 07/10/2014

Question:

I am interested in your trailer hitch for a 2007 Honda Element not SC. My question is which ball mount should I purchase for a 2inch ball which should stand 22inch above the ground? This is to tow a Yakima 66 rackand roll.

It is best to choose a ball mount after you have the the trailer hitch installed. This is because the height of the hitch on your 2007 Honda Element will dictate the rise or drop that you will need. Unfortunately we do not know the height of a trailer hitch on a 2007 element, but I have attached a help article that explains how to choose the correct ball mount for you to check out once you have the hitch installed.

I am not sure which trailer hitch you are interested in for your Element, but I would recommend the etrailer Class III Trailer Hitch, # e78KR. It has a 2" hitch receiver opening.

To find the hitch height, you will want to measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. The coupler height of the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, # Y08106, is 21 inches when it is completely level. The hitch height will most likely be lower than 21 inches, so you will need a ball mount with a rise that equals the difference between the hitch height and the coupler height. I have attached a link to all of our 2 inch ball mounts for you to choose from once you find the rise you need. Or you can send me the hitch height once the trailer hitch is installed and I would be happy to recommend a ball mount and hitch ball for you.

You will also need a wiring harness to tow the trailer if you do not already have one. I recommend the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # C56029. I have attached a link to the installation instructions for you.
