Question:
I have a 2022 chevy colorado v6 with tow package. I tow a 4,000 lb dry weight travel trailer. I have an e2 weight distribution hitch. Can I get a longer hitch shank that will allow my tailgate to open fully? Will that affect tow or weight capacities?

Hi William!
What you are looking for is the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4600. This has the same amount of drop as the original shank your e2 came with, but is 6 inches longer. This typically has enough length to clear the tailgate when dropped.
If you want something even longer though, you can also go with the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Shank # BLU64ER. This is a full 4" longer (measured pin hole to adjustment holes) than the # EQ90-02-4600, but it does only have 2" of drop compared to the Equal-i-zer's 4". If you aren't using all the drop with your current shank, this Blue Ox one is the longest we currently carry.
Both of these also use the fairly standard 1-1/4" adjustment hole measurement that your e2 weight distribution head uses, so no worries there. The Equal-i-zer is also rated up to 1,400 pounds of togue weight and the Blue Ox is rated up to 850 pounds of tongue weight, so either will also have you covered there. A longer shank will not reduce your towing capacity at all.
Do you tend to carry a lot of gear in your bed while you are towing? If so, what are you carrying?
