Weight Capacity of Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack for 2014 BMW X5 # RRVA137S-2 and # RRSX024
Question:
The add says supports 220 lbs, but in the details says 165 lbs. Load capacity - dead and dynamic is important as i plan to carry tandem bicycle, canoes, lumber from home depot. Please clarify capacity and what is weak link - car, rail, post, bar?

Roof rack manufacturers like Rhino-Rack design racks that will fit more than one vehicle and naturally there are variances in how much weight any given vehicle can handle. In the case of the 2014 BMW X5 the maximum safe weight load for the rack consisting of parts # RRVA137S-2 and # RRSX024 is 165-lbs, unless your owner's manual or dealership advise otherwise. In another application on a different vehicle this rack may be rated for more weight, but in any case the lowest-rated item in a system always determines the overall capacity. In this instance the lowest-rated item is the vehicle.
