Should I Prime and Paint The Bulldog BX1 Gooseneck Coupler To Prevent Rust
Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 12/25/2025 >
Question:
I purchased this and installed it because mine broke and I needed it right away. Does it need to be primed/painted? Will it rust if I don’t paint it?

Hey, Murphy!
The Bulldog BX1 gooseneck coupler part # BD1289020300 is made of steel. Since it's not primed or painted you will want to do that to prevent rusting. Without it you could start to see rust to show pretty quickly. Especially if you're in any sort of wet climates.
You would want to use some sort of rust inhibiting primer and then apply a top coat. I recommend Rustoleum, as they great options when it comes to rust preventing paints and should be easy to pick up at your local hardware store.

Hey Murphy, how did things go after you painted the Bulldog BX1 gooseneck coupler? Did the Rustoleum primer and top coat give you the protection you needed? Your update could make it easier for others working with the same coupler.
