The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller you referenced, part # 90885, is an excellent choice in a proportional-type brake controller. It includes a number of key features like battery protection and built-in diagnostics and it has proven to be easy to use and reliable among our customers.
In your tow-package-equipped Ford Explorer you can install this with a quick-connect harness # 3035-P that connects the controller to the under-dash port. This process is shown in the linked video.
