Because the roof is so short on the Mercedes SL-Class vehicles you will want to get a short roof mount cargo bag that fits a naked roof.
Rightline bag # RL100S50 is only 36 inches long and still offers 9 cubic feet of storage space. I also recommend using car clips # RL100600 to avoid running the straps through the interior of the vehicle.
I also recommend protective pad # RL100650 to not only protect the vehicle roof but to also help keep the bag from moving in transit. You will also want to consult the vehicle owners manual and/or Mercedes for the roof capacity prior to loading.
