I Don't Feel Much Braking Power When Using the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller

Question:
I recently purchased and installed the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller. I went through the initial setup according to the instructions with power setting of about 6 and no boost. How much braking should I feel with an empty trailer around 900 lbs? When I tested the setup per the instructions, I felt very little if any braking. I kept adjusting the settings and testing. At max power setting and max boost 3 I can feel some braking, but nothing dramatic, with either the manual override or regular vehicle braking. No where near locking the trailer brakes. I have never towed a trailer with brakes before. Will the trailer braking increase with a load on the trailer ie, more weight and mass pushinginch the vehicle? Does this sound normal? Thanks...

Hey, Rob!
Do you happen to know if the brakes are new? If so, it sounds like the brakes on the trailer need to be broken in. If they are manual you can adjust them yourself with an adjustment spoon, part # W80630. If they are self-adjusting, you will need to follow a different process.
I've linked a help article below that walks through both processes. It will also help you ID what kind of brakes you have if you're unsure.
Let me know how things go in a comment!

Hey Rob, how did things go after you checked whether your trailer brakes needed adjustment or break-in? Your update could make it easier for others setting up the Prodigy RF for the first time.
