Would Install of Roadmaster Steering Stabilizer Affect Vehicle Taillights

Updated 09/11/2025 | Published 09/04/2025

Question:

Hello, I have the RM38R which was installed by a mechanic that was referred to me by etrailer. This kit was installed on my 2021 Lincoln Navigator and the brake lights and turn signals work great. I do not have any running lights though. How do I get this corrected? Mitch

Hey Mitch, the Roadmaster steering stabilizer part # RM38R that you had installed shouldn't have came anywhere near the taillights of the vehicle so if something happened to the taillights I would check with the installer and see if they remember any reason it might have gotten damaged.

Good morning Jameson. Does the RM38R provide nighttime running lights to the towed vehicle? The vehicle running lights work while driving the towed vehicle with the headlights on. When the towed vehicle is connected to the motorhome and the headlights on the coach are turned on, there are no taillights on the towed vehicle. While connected to the Coach, the brake and turn signal lights on the towed do work

@MitchS The install of the # RM38RR use any wiring at all so any issues with lighting or wiring would have nothing directly to do with this kit. It is possible something was damaged accidentally when it was installed though.

@JamesonC—hello, is the RM38R supposed to operate the tail lights of the towed vehicle? Or does it only operate turn signals and brake lights? It would seem odd that this diode kit would not operate the tail lights of the towed vehicle. It would leave no tail lights on the rear of the towed at night

@MitchS We are talking about different part numbers but it sounds like you had a diode tow bar wiring kit installed and that's what you are asking about. Diode kits do install on the running light circuit too so that can be affected. Two of the diodes of the kit would be for this circuit so you might check to make sure all 4 diodes are in use.
