Is Rear Bumper Removal Or Drilling Required To Install Trailer Mate Hitch On 2017-2026 Honda CR-V?

Question:
Does the installation require removing the rear bumper or just enlarging holes? I’m handy but don’t want to tear the car apart.

Sharon, no bumper removal required here. The Trailer Mate hitch # TMT34FR uses existing frame holes and only asks that you enlarge one access hole on each side of the frame rail so you can feed the carriage bolts and spacers inside. A step bit or rotary tool works great - many DIYers get it done in under an hour.
You’ll also temporarily drop the exhaust off its rubber hangers to make space, supporting it with a ratchet trap or something similar, but that’s a quick step and everything bolts back up once the hitch is in place. You won't have to actually remove the exhaust or anything like that.
Do you have access to a torque wrench? That’ll be the last key tool you’ll need for a safe install.
