Steve, the BrandMotions parking sensor commercial kit # BM39FR reads up to 9' 10", nearly twice the range of the passenger kit # BM28YR. That extra reach gives drivers more reaction time since larger commercial trucks and vans really need this to be as safe as passenger vehicles with the passenger kit.

I wouldn't put the commercial kit on a passenger vehicle unless it's an older pickup truck or something you don't care about appearance quite as much, since the commercial kit is not a custom flush mount, it actually hangs under the bumper a little bit. If you do indeed have a commercial vehicle like a work van or truck etc. then this commercial kit would indeed be a great option!

What vehicle do you have, Steve? This will help steer you in the right direction. I've attached pics showing the two different styles mentioned above.

Appreciate the breakdown, Andrew. I run a shuttle bus that’s about 26 feet long, would the passenger kit be enough for that, or should I go with the commercial one for the extra reach? – Linda

@Linda At 26 feet, you’re right in that in-between zone Linda. The passenger kit # BM28YR maxes out at about 4 feet of detection, which works fine for cars and SUVs, but on a shuttle bus you’ll want the extra reaction time. The commercial kit # BM39FR nearly doubles that distance, so you’ll actually hear the alerts early enough to slow and stop smoothly in a larger vehicle. It’s also built with longer wiring runs in mind, so installation goes a lot smoother on tall or extended bodies like a shuttle bus. If you’re putting this on something that’s in daily service, the commercial kit is the safer bet. Do you usually need coverage just for the rear bumper, or would side sensors help in tight parking lots too?
