Can Longer Ball Mount Allow Trailer to be Towed with Tailgate Down

Question:
Hello, I have a Flagstaff Microlite 25SRK and I haul it with my Titan Pro4X Pickup 1/2 ton, I have a trip planned to go from Orlando FL to Lenoir NC but I would also like to take my motorcycle with me, on the bed of the truck, for which I need to keep the tailgate open during the trip, my question is if I can use an extension on the hitch to move the tongue a little away from the truck and this way be able to maneuver comfortably? Thank you.

Hey Gustavo, a hitch extender could work for you but I don't love recommending them since they cut the capacity of the hitch they are used in by 50 percent and add a bit of movement. Your best solution would be a longer ball mount if that would work since that avoids those issues. So to see what would work could I get the length of your current ball mount and the current drop you have as well as how much more length you'd need. With that info we can come up with the best plan.
For example, the part # 80232 is 15-3/4 inches long and has a 2 inch drop.
