Question:

I have a question about the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller - Trailer Mount w Remote - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional Part Number: TK94FR. I have it installed on my Airstream RV, and Im getting active current to one brake hub while no braking is applied trying to determine if the controller is bad or not.

Hey Randy,

Typically when you are getting an active current to a brake with no braking applied it is either an issue with the controller itself, or an issue with the brake magnet. I would make sure the wire from the brake controller is in tact and there is no damage to the chord. Since yours is a simple 7 way plug in there is not going to be any splicing issues.

My recommendation is testing the brake magnet. You can either remove the hub and take a look to see if the brake magnet is stuck in the engaged position. Or, with the brake controller disconnected you can uses a volt meter at the brake hubs wiring. If there is voltage present without any braking that would indicate a bad controller and that would need to be replaced.

If that does not help the issue, let me know and I can continue to troubleshoot.

Nick, just wanted to follow-up. In your answer you stated "...with the brake controller disconnected...use a volt meter..." It seems that if the brake controller were connected and there is voltage at the brake assembly (what I have now), then if the brake controller is disconnected there is no voltage, that would indicate the brake controller is at fault. Can you confirm this is the intended approach to troubleshooting this?

@Randy Correct, it sounds like there is an issue with the brake controller and it is faulty causing the issue you are seeing.
