Replacement 5th Wheel Base Rail Hardware Kit for a 1998 Chevy 3900 Pickup

Updated 09/30/2025 | Published 05/08/2025

Question:

I have a 1998 Chevy 3900 truck with an 8 foot bed and the 6.5 turbo diesel engine. I have a Reese fifth wheel hitch 15,000 pound and the bed rails for it. I need to buy all of the under bed bolting kit.

Hey Stephen, thanks for reaching out!

We have a replacement hardware kit with the Reese # RP30439, but I see that you've already placed an order for the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit # C16200.

This is honestly the best-case scenario though because you always want to match the mounting brackets to the base rails to make sure everything lines up right. Getting a whole new base rail system is the best route for you to take in your situation so you know it all works.

Do you have an in-bed 7-Way like the Hopkins # 41157? This will make it easier to hook up your 5th wheel 7-Way plug than it would be on your bumper.

Hey Stephen, did the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit work out for your truck? I'm curious to know if it solved your issue, as it could help others in a similar situation.
