Hello R. W.,
If you're installing the SJ1-SJ2 Fulton Drop Leg Stabilizer Jack Kit # FSJ1-SJ2 on your 10k dump trailer, a good rule of thumb is to have the mounting channel extend about 3 to 5 inches below the trailer frame. This usually gives you the best balance between having enough ground clearance when the jack is fully retracted (so you're not scraping it on driveways or curbs) and making sure it can still reach the ground when extended.
Most dump trailers in that weight class ride about 24 to 26 inches off the ground, so if the mounting channel drops the jack down to around 20 inches, you're in great shape. That setup gives you about 5 inches of clearance when the jack is up, and plenty of extension range since the jack can go out to 37 inches. Just make sure when it’s fully extended, there’s still a good amount of overlap between the inner and outer tubes for strength and stability.
One tip: before welding anything in place, it helps to clamp the mounting channel where you think it should go and test the range of motion. That way you can be sure it’ll work well with your trailer’s height and terrain.
After you get things all set-up please make sure to send in a picture.

Hey R.W., how did the setup go with the Fulton drop-leg stabilizer jack on your dump trailer? Did the 3–5 inch drop below the frame give you the clearance and reach you needed? Your update could make it easier for the next person working on a similar trailer.
