Recommended Shocks for a Trailer Rebuild

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/24/2025

Question:

I am adding a RTT to my 4x8 trailer as part of a rebuild. When the RTT is on the trailer the center of gravity is higher, and I have left right sway. Can I add shocks? Here is a link to photos of the current gullwing axle with what look like anchor spots on the axle and I Beam frame. here is a link to photos https://photos.app.goo.gl/v2KadmSLuL3Rs4v1A

Hey Bill thanks for the link! The only shock set up that might work is the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit item # RM-2450-50. The upper shock mounts gets attached directly to the trailer frame and then the lower shock mounts gets attached to the tie plate on your leaf springs. It should work as it uses the existing u-bolts but I need to know how wide your springs are.

If you could measure your leaf springs and let me know in the comment box below, I'll be able to tell you if this set up will work.

Hey Bill, were you able to get the width of your leaf springs for that trailer rebuild? Once you have that measurement, I can confirm if the Roadmaster kit will fit your setup. Let me know what you find—I'm here if you need a hand narrowing it down.
