Will Draw-Tite Hitch Increase Tongue Weight Rating for a 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe?

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/03/2025

Question:

I have a 2023 jeep wrangler 4xe and it says max tongue weight is 350lbs. The draw tite max hitch says the tongue weight is 650lbs. Does that hitch actually increase the max tongue weight from what Jeep says it is

Hey Eric, great question!

You'll want to stick with what Jeep says is the max tongue weight for your 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. It can be a bit confusing when we see things designed for our vehicles having different weight ratings, but the long and short of it is that hitch manufacturers rate their hitches without testing it on the vehicle. This is good because it means any fail points are directly related to the structure of the hitch, but it does make it confusing when choosing a hitch.

Bottom line is this; if you install the Draw-Tite Hitch # DT78MR on your Jeep, the Jeep will be more likely to fail than the hitch since the hitch has a stronger weight rating. Hopefully that helps!

What are you planning on using the hitch for?

Hey Eric, what did you end up using the Draw-Tite hitch on your Wrangler 4xe for? It’d be great to hear how it handled within the Jeep’s tongue weight limit. Your experience could help others sorting through the same ratings question.
