How to Add Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform to 2015 Chevy Tahoe With Naked Roof

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/16/2025

Question:

I’ve got a 2015 Chevy Tahoe with a bare roof. I’m wanting a pioneer platform, and really like the look of the backbone. Is it possible to use a backbone for a Tahoe?

Hey Luiken! The Backbone mounting system is vehicle specific. Unfortunately, Rhino-Rack does not make one that will fit the 2015 Tahoe. However, you can still add the pioneer platform. Since you have a naked roof you will need to add tracks to be able to add a platform rack.

What you can use is the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Rack - Track Mount - 52" Long x 54" Wide # RR98QX. This comes with 36-1/4" long tracks, legs, spacer blocks, and the platform to mount on top of your Tahoe. If you're looking for longer tracks or a different size platform let me know in the comments below and we can piece something together. I did look at Yakima and for the Tahoe with a roof rack they use the 55" Long x 49" Wide LockNLoad # Y05044-39 so I think the 52" Long x 54" Wide Pioneer will work well.

Hey Luiken, how did the Pioneer Platform setup with the track mount work out on your Tahoe? Your update could make it easier for others trying to add a platform to a bare roof.
