If I Put the Draw-Tite Hitch on My Tesla Y Will it Up the Tongue Weight So I Can Haul My 240lbs Bike

I have a 2023 Model Y with factory Hitch. I carry a 165lbs of Edirtbike to stay within the Vertical weight limit of 160. tongue weight of 300lbs Will this class 3 hitch have more capacity? I’m looking to carry 240lb bike plus the bike carrier. That’s 300lbs total. I see the 525 tongue weight. The install looks the same as my current hitch. Thanks.

Hello William,
Great question. You are only as strong as your weakest link, just because the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT58MR is rated for a 525 pound tongue weight, it does not mean that your Tesla is. In my research I found that the 2023 Tesla Model Y has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs when equipped with the factory towing package. I would double check with Tesla to confirm what the allowed tongue weight is, that is the weight you will need to follow.
I might have a different option that will keep you in that range. You said that the bike you want to carry is 240 pounds, if you were to get the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier for 2" Hitches - With Ramp # UF48-979033 it weighs right around 50 pounds which would still keep you inside the 300 pounds.
