Hello Ken, thanks for reaching out. The Rightline Gear Sport Jr. Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S50 can absolutely be used on your 2023 Mazda CX-5 carbon edition, and there are a few options for installation.
The best option is to install a roof rack with crossbars, like the Inno Roof Rack # IN89YR. This gives you a nice secure attachment point and keeps the bag up off the roof. The roof rack comes with clamps that are custom fit for your CX-5, so it will have a nice clean look on the roof. Plus the crossbars are versatile and can be used for carrying a lot more that just a cargo bag. If you plan to use the cargo bag frequently, or for long trips, it is definitely worth it to invest in a roof rack. You can also use a basket like part # FHG74ZR if you want to really do it right.
The Cargo Bag can also be strapped on to the bare roof. It comes with universal clips that can insert into the door jamb. I am not a huge fan of the universal clips because they aren't super secure. They can move around a bit and can sometimes leave scuffs or scratches on the roof. If you will only be using the bag a few times a year, and won't be driving very far, you can probably get away with mounting to the bare roof. Otherwise I strongly encourage you to use a roof rack and cargo basket.

Hey Ken, how did things go with the Rightline Gear Sport Jr. cargo bag on your CX-5? Did you end up using the door clips or go with the roof rack setup? Your experience could help others deciding between those two options.
