What Size Thread Tap for Draw-Tite Hitch on 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/22/2024

Question:

I bought the DrawTite class IV hitch for my 2006 4runner and I know Im going to run into corrosion issues with install. What thread taps do you recommend for me to clear out the threads on the frame?

Hi Andy; the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75155 uses M12 x 1.25 and M8 x 1.25 bolts as seen in the instructions I attached below. We only have the M8 x 1.25 with the # PT22FR so you will have to get an M12 x 1.25 from a local hardware store or somewhere else online.

Hey Andy, how did things go cleaning out the threads on your 4Runner’s frame for the Draw-Tite hitch? Your update could make it easier for the next person dealing with corrosion before a hitch install.

@RobinH Hi Robin! I hate to say that the project stalled. I cleaned out the threads the best I could, but it looked like the bolts are a little big for the holes. I don't have a lift and it's a bit tight working under the truck, so I was planning on having someone install it for me. I just haven't gotten around to it.
