Can a Larger M16 Bolt Be Used to Replace Original Pivot Bolt for the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Kit

Updated 02/19/2025 | Published 11/09/2024

Question:

I have trailer with a 3x3 Fulton Fold-Away Weld On Hinge. There is a fair amount of vertical play in the hinge. I am concerned the movement will cause it worsen over time. Is it possible to use the slightly larger M16 10.9 bolt to tighten the fit and reduce the play in the hinge? Thanks for your feedback. Doug

Sure Doug, as long as the bolt you want to use fits in the hole on the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit #FHDPW330300 and it's torqued correctly you can use a slightly larger bolt.

Hi Bryce - Thank you for the response. Thought of a follow up to this question. Is 10.9 the appropriate metric equivalent grade to use in this application? Thanks again, Doug

@Doug Hey Doug, the Fulton Fold Away Coupler Hinge Kit only requires grade 5 bolts, so you can use 10.9 grade if you like but it isn't needed.
