Hey John,
The Hopkins EasyLift Truck Bed Tailgate Lift Assist # 74211 is more of a universal fit item so it would likely fit your 2002 GMC Sierra. It's just a torsion bar that requires you to drill into the tailgate and bed to install. Once in place the torsion bar will provide tension to the tailgate to make lifting the tailgate easier.
