Recommended Weight Distribution System for a Straight Tongue Aluma 7712 Tilt Trailer

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/08/2024

Question:

I just purchased an Aluma 7712 tilt trailer. Im hauling a Honda Pioneer 1000. It weighs 1700lbs the trailer is 700lbs and I have the tongue weight at 260lbs. This is towed behind a 2023 Gladiator. It seems to sway more than I like. It feels like it wouldnt take much to get out of control. I like the idea of the friction bar. But, my trailer tongue is straight back for 36 inches before it angles out to the side. Every video Ive watched show the friction type connected to Ainch frame tongues. Will the Reese 83660 work on a straight tongue? Thanks Jim

Hey Jim, unfortunately the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 is not going to work with a straight tongued trailer. Instead, I recommend using the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-0800 with the straight tongue adapter # EQ95-01-5950.

This will allow you to mount a weight distribution system on your straight tongue trailer and will hopefully eliminate that sway you're experiencing.

Hey Jim, how did things go after switching to the Fastway e2 system with the straight tongue adapter on your Aluma trailer? Did it help calm down the sway when towing your Honda Pioneer behind the Gladiator? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same setup.
