Does Position on Tongue Matter for Fulton Coupler Hinge Installation
Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/24/2024 >
Question:
Wondering if it matters where on the tongue you mount the Fulton folding neck mount? Does it have to be close to the trailer or is it ok to use it to extend the neck of the trailer?

Hello Mark; I'm assuming you're talking about the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit like # FHDPB330301. It does matter where you mount the hinge on the tongue but it varies depending on the size.
Take a look below and you will see the pivot rating chart which shows the gross trailer weight, max tongue load, and max pivot length. This chart is for the hinge kit above for 3" x 3" trailer tongues. You can see the appropriate chart listed on each coupler hinge product page. We have the following available:
-Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 2" x 3" Trailer Tongue - Bolt On - Up to 5,000 lbs # FHDPB230101

Hey Mark, how did things go with mounting the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit on your trailer tongue? Did the pivot rating chart help you decide where to place it? Your update could make it easier for others working on the same setup.
