Alternative to Rain-X 2-In-1 Glass Cleaner That Leaves Streaks

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/24/2024

Question:

I am using the rainx 2 in 1 and it streaks like crazy, weather I do it in the sun or shade, on my 2009 Shelby GT500 show car. I end up using a mixture of 50 water and 50 rubbing alcohol to get rid of the streaks. What am I doing wrong? Other brands dont streak.

Hey Pete, great question!

I've always been a Rain-X guy because they weren't super cheap but also weren't super expensive. Rain-X has done a great job at hitting the market where the most people are at - a good solution at a decent price. I've personally never used their 2-in-1 glass cleaner, but I've used their windshield wipers for years and it's been normal for me to see streaks with their "streak-free" wipers unless it's raining really hard.

Since your 2009 Shelby GT500 is a show car and you need a pristine look, you'll want to use something a little more on the higher-end of things like the Griot's Garage Window and Glass Cleaner # 34911108. The good guys at Griot's Garage treat their vehicles like a member of the family and have created cleaning products that reflect that as well.

I'm attaching a video our video team shot of this glass cleaner being used so you can see how clean it leaves the glass.

Hey Pete, how did things turn out after trying the Griot’s Garage glass cleaner on your Shelby GT500? Did it give you the streak-free finish you were looking for? Your results could really help others dealing with the same issue.
