Question:
I purchased one year ago the AC DOM 150 advent 15,000 BTU air conditioner as a replacement for my 2004 coachman chaparral fifth wheel. We installed it. It has worked for the past year, but there has always been a smell coming from it the whole RV smells like it. It almost is like a chemical not really a plastic burning smell. It is very hard to describe, but I can tell you sitting in the RV with the air conditioner running for a long time. The smell is overwhelming. I don’t know , if it’s a chemical smell it doesn’t smell like burning wire I know what that smells like the smell is just horrible. I mean it literally you want to open the doors to get the smell out of the RV. And it does it when the air conditioner is running and then the smell lingers after the air conditioner shut off because the RV obviously is a small space it’s only 32 feet long. We have one air conditioner unit and I just want someone to tell me why is it still smelling after a year? The original domestic air conditioner, never had that smell to it. That plastic, chemical, whatever the smell is is beyond annoying and I just wanna know if the unit is bad if it how to tell if it’s leaking Freon because it’s cooling, but it just the smell is horrible.

Hey Bridgette, that is really strange! Have you tried replacing the air filter? We have that for the Advent units with the part # ADV54FR. That would be the first thing to check. You'd also want to check to see if any of the drain lines for the unit are clogged or routing water into an area that might cause problems.
If it's been doing it for a long time and still blows cold air I wouldn't assume it's a freon leak either since that would eventually cause the unit to stop working well.
