How Much Tongue Weight Can a 2018 Buick LaCrosse Handle For Carrying a Power Wheelchair?

Question:

Total tong weight using a number two hitch with a power lift tray for a power wheelchair. Power wheelchares range from over 200 lbs down to forty five lbs. I’m 87 years old. Wife can’t pick up any wheel chair out of the trunk of our 2018 Buick LaCrosse premium. That’s why I need to know max tong weight allowed. Please. I hope you sir have the answer. Thank you Don

The only custom fit trailer hitch receiver I can find for your 2018 Buick LaCrosse is the Draw-Tite # 36652. This is a class II receiver with a 1-1/4" opening. It has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 200lbs. I looked at the owners manual for your vehicle and while they do not give an exact maximum weight capacity for your tongue weight you must simply ensure you do not exceed the weight capacity for your LaCrosse.

You will need to see if you can find a lift tray and power wheelchair with a combined weight of less than 200lbs which can be fitted to a 1-1/4" receiver opening. If you cannot find one for a 1-1/4" receiver opening we do have the Weld On 2" Receiver # E17 which would allow you to have a custom 2" receiver fabricated at a local shop.
