If your service trailer brake system indicator light comes on then there are a few common things to check. The first being the trailer wiring if you're only experiencing this issue when connected to the trailer. This could be a a loose or corroded ground connection on the trailer or a short in the output wire for the brake assemblies. It also wouldn't hurt to check the 7-way on your Ram to ensure everything is functioning properly as well.
If you're receiving this error without a trailer connected then you likely have an issue with either the ECS module or the brake controller in your Ram. You'll need to reach out to a trusted mechanic to check the ECS module. They can try taking a look at the brake controller to see if it's just a wiring issue but it'll likely be some internal issue that's not repairable and you'll just have to replace it.
If you are in need of a replacement brake controller then I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR along with the plug-and-play harness # 331-TPH-020 to make installation easier. This brake controller comes with one of the smallest control knobs on the market so that you can install it virtually anywhere and maintain a factory look.
