Black and White Wire Functions when Wiring Trailer Batteries in a Series

Putting batteries back in trailor in series , which wire are what.have black and white

First, I have included some pictures, one showing batteries connected in series and the other of batteries connected in parallel.
Typically the black wire is the 12 volt power wire and white is the ground. That is the way it is on the 4 to 7-Way adapter # 37185. But you cannot always go by color. Testing the wires using a circuit tester such as # PTW2992 will confirm the functions of wires.
