Troubleshooting Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller Activating Trailer Brakes To Harshly
Published 10/06/2023 >
Question:
I have a 2016 Volvo D780 and installed this controller using a T connector from the green air line to the 1/4inch for the controller. The issue I have is the slider/adjuster goes to full brake when Im braking under normal application causing the trailer brakes to over apply. If I hold my finger between the slider and edge of box preventing it from applying all the way the brakes work perfectly. I did the get the dual valve with Ts on each side of it but Im not sure which air lines to connect it to. Hayes has been no help either.

First I just want to verify if you have tried turning the controller handle on the Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller # HA100400C. By turning the knob clockwise it will decrease the application of the trailer brakes. This is necessary since not all vehicles use the same amount of air pressure in the brake system to engage the brakes.
For the dual valve installation I recommend contacting you local Volvo truck center. They will be able to best help you identify the correct air lines as they can vary from truck to truck.
