Is the Thule Outbound Roof Cargo Bag # TH868 Mounted Directly to Vehicle Roof

Question:

Hi! My question in regarding these cargo bags is: are they installed on the roof of a vehicle or are slightly above the roof of the vehicle without touching the roof? Best regards

The Thule Outbound Roof Mounted Cargo Bag is primarily designed to rest directly on the vehicle roof. The bag would be secured to the vehicle by straps attached to the roof rack side rails or crossbars. A cargo basket, such as the Thule Canyon, part # TH859XT can also be used for a more secure connection.

To avoid scratching the paint, before installing you should ensure that the vehicle roof and the underside of the bag are perfectly clean and free of grit. Using a non-skid pad like the # RL100650 from Rightline would be a good idea. Although the pad is a bit smaller than the bag, it would do an excellent job of preventing the bag from moving around during transport and would provide some protection for the vehicle roof.
