Is The A-iPower Generator # CH34FR Capable of Running a 1,300 Watt Air Conditioner On RV Camper?

Updated 08/07/2023 | Published 08/06/2023

Question:

Is it ok to run a 1300 watt RV air-conditioner on 20 amps? I heard that 20 amps will burn out the motor. I like the champion generator. It has enough starting watts but it only provides 20amp service. Thanks

Expert Reply:

If your AC only requires 1,300 watts to run that is less than 11amps of power on a 120 volt circuit. With your Champion generator having a 20-amp circuit this does not verify how much running wattage the generator has as the starting wattage is generally higher. As long as the running wattage for your generator is higher than the AC and any other items drawing power off your camper you should not have any issues.

For instance the A-iPower Portable Inverter Generator # 289-SUA2000i you found has 2,000 watts of starting power or 16.6 amps. When running it only has 1,600 watts of power or 13.3 amps of power.
