Is There Minimum Distance Between Ground and Bottom of Adjustable Ball Mount

Question:
concerning this model hitch what would be considered a safe distance with the overall length of the hitch? My situation, on my Thor RV-measurement from top of hitch to ground is 20. This unit is 14inch overall according to the attached picture. That would leave me 6inch between the bottom of the hitch and the pavement. Is that enough space? I just dont want to bottom out the hitch over RR tracks, Speed bumps, etc.. Please advise I like to stay with a locking type hitch similar to the type pictured with a scale if possible. I read somewhere that you want to be around 11inch off the ground ball height when towing. You dont want to be below that distance Thanks

An exact safe distance to have between the bottom of your ball mount and the ground is hard to give, but I would say 6 inches would be on the "less than ideal" side. Going with something that has less drop like the Fastway 2 ball mount part # FA34FR would be a better choice. This can do a drop of up to 5-1/2 inches and also has a built in tongue weight scale.
