Outlet Amperage Requirement For The Progressive Dynamics PD9100L Converter Charger
Published 05/28/2023 >
Question:
Hi, if the PD9180ALV converter draws 1,300 Watts or between 11-12 Amps. 1,300W/120V = 11A to 1,300W/110V = 12A. Why cant you use a dedicated standard 15A circuit? 15A outlets are rated for at least 1,500W, typical for a hair dryer, space heater, coffee maker, etc and theoretically capable to 1,650W to 1,800W? Many thanks.

Mathematically you're absolutely correct and if take a look at the installation manual it states to "Plug converter into appropriate outlet." so they really leave it in a gray area for the correct amperage outlet. I could be wrong but I do believe the instructions have changed a bit over time because I remember seeing 20 amp outlets as a requirement in the past.
With the Progressive Dynamics PD9100L Series Battery Converter Charger w/ BMS # PD9180ALV only pulling roughly 12 amps you could use a 15 amp outlet. Progressive Dynamics is much more specific about the circuit breaker being dedicated to only the converter so you will want to ensure that it is only running to the specific outlet for your converter and isn't tied in with anything else.
