Can A Motorhome Brake Controller Be Used To Activate The Brakes In A Flat Towed Vehicle
Updated 05/12/2023 | Published 05/10/2023 >
Question:
I purchased a used 2014 Itasca Suncruiser 32H and setup my 2021 Jeep Wrangler to tow behind. I had a Demco brake package installed in the Jeep. I recently noticed that there is a Prodigy P2 #90885 installed in the motorhome. Could that have been used to tow a Jeep or is it only used to tow a trailer. Since I have the Demco, is it safe to assume that the Prodigy has become surplus and unnecessary?

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 sends an electrical signal for activate electric brakes and would have no way to activate the brakes in your 2021 Jeep Wrangler. It's not needed but I wouldn't get rid of it since you could use it to tow a trailer in the event you wanted to bring another vehicle with you that's either not set up to flat tow or can't be flat towed. A lot of motorhome owners will typically also tow a boat around so you'd likely need a brake controller for that as well unless the trailer had a surge brake.
If you need any components for the motorhome for your Demco supplemental braking system then just let me know what system you got and I can find the correct parts for you.
