Will this work on my 2020 Ford Escape with the panoramic roof? and no rack to attach to on the roof? Will it scratch the paint/glass?

Since you don't have any mounting points you'll have to use a clamp-on style roof rack system. The bases for these style roof racks come with rubber pads to prevent any scratching. For your 2020 Ford Escape I recommend going with a Rhino Rack system which will require the following components:

Since you don't have raised rails you may run into some clearance issues with the panoramic roof. You'll want to measure how high it sits and dry fit one of the crossbars to see if it will interfere with you opening the roof prior to fully installing the rack.
