Does Trailer Need to be Connected to Pair the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller
Published 02/07/2014 >
Question:
Does the trailer need to be physically hitched to the towing vehicle during the 90250 pairing process? Is the a reason it needs to be hitched other than to level the unit? In other words, can the unit be paired just by plugging it into the tow vehicle, and once that step is complete, later mounted on the trailer and the trailer plugged into the TK94FR. My trailer is remotely stored. My vehicle is an 2011 Mercedes GL350. Trailer is cargo style for transporting a race car.

You will have to physically install the power module onto your trailer before it can be paired. Its not just a matter of pairing the remote to the module. You need to install everything on the vehicle side and trailer side before it will pair correctly.
The wiring will need to be connected from the trailer to the power module to your tow vehicle also. So although the coupler of the trailer would not need to be hitched to the hitch ball of your tow vehicle the wiring needs to be connected.
I attached an install video and instructions for this controller for you to check out also.
