Recommended Sidewinder Rotating Turret for a RBW 7028 Pin Box

Published 04/04/2023

Question:

I’ve been doing a lot of research on your website. I am planning to start towing with a 2003 Dodge D2500 diesel, short bed. Your people say that towing is better with the Sidewinder over a sliding hitch. I’m thinking that a Sidewinder, rather than a sliding hitch would be better for my needs. I have a 7K trailer with a RBW7028 long pin box. The pin box is a RBW Industries # 7028. I have measurements if needed! Is there a Sidewinder replacement for this pin box? If so, will a Reese Classic 14K fifth wheel hitch work for it? Will the Demco above bed rail, custom kit fit the hitch I have now? Or, do I need a different hitch? If this plan works, I would appreciate part numbers. If it doesn’t work, I have the numbers for the Demco auto sliding hitch, and parts from Jerred H. Thank you Etrailer!

Thanks for the information. The RBW 7028 isn't a common pin box but we do have a sidewinder for it. It is the 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin w/ Sidewinder and Turret item # RP61412. This will move the pivot point back 22" which will allow you to make sharp turns in your Ram short bed.

The Reese Sidewinder is compatible with a Reese Classic 14K 5th wheel hitch but you will need the 5th Airborne Custom Wedge item # SWW-03. This locks the connection point of your 5th wheel hitch and the sidewinders kingpin so that the only part that moves is the rotating pin box.

The Demco Premier Series Above-Bed Base Rails item # DM8552016-71 will work with a Reese 5th wheel hitch and are custom fit for your 2003 Ram 2500.

To make towing with a 5th wheel easier I recommend adding the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Connector - 10' Long item # C56071. This harness puts a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck and allows you to keep the one on your bumper. This makes hooking up to your 5th wheel trailer easier and more convenient.
