Can An Adapter Be Used To Plug A Progressive Dynamics PD9280 Converter Into A 15 Amp Outlet
Question:
Can I use an adapter on my pd9280 converter to plug in to my regular 15 amp wall inlet, because the plug on the unit is a 20 amp type . With an adapter such as I descibe will that work?

No, the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Smart Battery Charger # PD9280A requires a dedicated 20 amp circuit. This means that you'll need a 20 amp circuit breaker in your panel that only powers the outlet that the converter plugs into, and the outlet will need to be rated for 20 amps as well. Using 15 amp rated components will cause a short and trip the outlet/breaker because the converter is going to pull more than 15 amps.
This may mean that you'll need run a new outlet out from your panel in order to have a dedicated outlet. You'll want to pick up a 20 circuit breaker, 20 amp outlet, single gang outlet box, outlet box cover, and some 12 gauge wire to run from the panel to the outlet.
Progressive Dynamics actually has a warning on their converter pages stating that you will void your warranty if you alter the plug and that you have to use a 20 amp outlet.
