Why Are My Brakes On My 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engaging After Unhooking From RV?

Published 09/29/2022

Question:

The dust cover was tightly fitted. The brakes finally fully released after two days but I heard what almost sounded like a sizzle coming from the unit. We hooked up to travel and our lights wouldn’t work. The control unit in the m/h was beeping and reading 6a.

I spoke with Hopkins about your Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System # HM39530, and they recommend that you ensure that you install the dust cover after you unplug the coil cable so the breakaway disengages.

You'll want to ensure that the dust cover in plugged in tight as well.

If you have checked this already and are still experiencing the same issue, let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.

I spoke with them again, and the code “BA” on the controller means breakaway. So, something is causing your unit to go into breakaway, likely an issue with your wiring. They recommend that you review your wiring, and ensure there is not breaks, frays, or shorts in your wiring. If the system goes into breakaway it will release after 3 minutes. It would not take 2 days to release the brakes.
