Which Way Should 5th Wheel Hitch Pull Pins Face When Installing a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
Updated 10/18/2013 | Published 10/17/2013 >
Question:
Per the manual, the four pull pins must be installed with the spring clips to the outboard side of the rails. Will the hitch be permanently damaged if you mistakenly install the spring clips to the inboard side, and then proceed to tow? If so what would the symptoms be?

Expert Reply:
The pins will need to be installed so the clips is on the outboard side on a slider. If they are on the inside it can interfere with the slider mechanism and cause damage to the hitch or could result in injury. Always doublecheck the clip location before sliding the hitch. You could also use pull pin lock plates, # RP58093, for a more secure connection. They are also supposed to be on the outboard side.
