Recently purchased the SportRack Vista XL SR7018, neither the instructions / parts list included the 4 reinforcing plates. Nor were they in the bag. Are these reinforcing plates necessary?

Yes, the reinforcing plates are required for the SportRack Vista XL Cargo Box part # SR7018 per the instructions. They are to help the u-bolts from pulling through and damaging the plastic. If you don't have these, we do offer them as the Replacement Plate Box Support part # TH10378.
