I would be happy to help you set your 2021 Toyota Highlander XSE up for towing. I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish item # e75ZR. This hitch is custom fit and attaches to your Highlanders frame with included hardware. I have linked an installation video below. On the XSE models that have the dual tip exhaust the extra step is that you have to drop the exhaust to allow the hitch to fit past it which isn't required on the single exhaust models. This is a very common step for the install of trailer hitches. Basically you just have to slide the exhaust hanger off and guide the hitch in.

For your 7-way connector you will want the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness w Brake Controller Adapter - 7 Way Trailer Connector item # TK57VR.This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your rear cargo area.

You will also need a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller item # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer brakes in proportion to your Highlander's braking action. It automatically adjusts the trailer's braking based on deceleration of your vehicle. This brake controller plugs directly into the port on your 7-way wiring harness.

To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
