Although it is not absolutely necessary to remove the wheels to install the mud guards, it would make the install much easier. Depending on the sub-model of your Suburban (LTZ, Z-71, etc) drilling is required to install the mud guards. Unless you have a right-angle drill, you will want to remove the wheel in order to drill the necessary holes.
The mud guards you referenced, part # HL57731 are not the correct fit for a 2012 Suburban.
For a Z-71 model, use # HL56821 for the front and # HL57821 for the rear. For LTZ models, use # HL56731 for the front and # HL56781 for the rear and for LS and LT models without the fender flares, use # HL56731 in the front and # HL57761 in the rear.
If your Suburban is equipped with powered running boards, the mud guards will NOT fit.
