Updated 04/04/2022 | Published 04/02/2022

Question:

The weight limit on your site states it is only 100 pounds for teh bicycle rack overall. Yet that seems low for a 4 bicycle rack holder is it correct ? Also what does one do. with their license plate would teh bike rack block teh plate ? Would one need do something if so ? What wuld one do so as to not get in trouble with that ?

The Rola TX-104 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches item # 59401 does have a lower overall capacity at 100 lbs but this is also the only hanging bike rack that has a tilting function with the bikes loaded. If you are in need of a 4 bike hanging bike rack that has a higher capacity then you will want to take a look at the Thule Hitching Post Pro item # TH934XTR. This bike rack has a capacity of 35 lbs per bike.

As far as blocking your license plate goes it varies from state to state but the general consensus is that you shouldn't completely block it. We do have a couple of options that solve this problem. The first is the License Plate Relocation Kit item # 32-0055. You may have to drill a hole in your bike rack to attach it but this kit will allow you to remove your license plate and display it on your bike rack.

The second option is to use the Curt Dual Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches item # D-192 and the License Plate Relocation Bracket item # 5443. This gives you a second receiver to mount your license plate on that also lifts up your bike rack. The only issue with this option is that the hitch extender reduces your hitch capacity by 50%.
