Question:
Can you recommend a brake controller thats good to use with a standard transmission with an exhaust brake in the mountains. I have a 2003 and 2006 Dodge ram 3500 diesel. I currently have a tekonsha Voyager that was installed when I bought my camper and it works great when youre on a flat road, but when you start down a steep grade, down shift and use the exhaust brake, when you push the brake pedal the trailer does all the braking so I end up trying to adjust on the fly, then after reaching the bottom of the grade I have to readjust back to flat driving or the trailer doesnt do any braking.

When it comes to installing a brake controller in your 2003 and 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel, I recommend Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90885 . Most modern proportional brake controllers that use accelerometers and not a pendulum. The pendulum controllers like your Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 does not have an accelerometer and will require manual leveling. The P2 # 90885 is a sensor that can sense the changes in inertia which tell the brake controller the amount of braking power needed to apply to the trailer's brakes.
You will also need The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Dodge # 3020-P. The harness simply plugs into the end of the brake controller and then the other plug plugs into the built-in harness beneath your vehicle's dash.
I have attached an installation video below.
