Comparing Yakima SwingDaddy 4 Bike Rack # Y02464 and Thule Vertex # TH9031XT

Updated 09/21/2009 | Published 09/18/2009

Question:

I am looking at both the Thule Vertex and the Yakima Swingdaddy. Which one is better? To me the swingdaddy looks nicer and things look more organized and integrated.

The two racks are very similar, but they have a few differences. Although they weigh about the same, the SwingDaddy, part # Y02464, has a higher weight capacity than the Thule Vertex Swing # TH9031XT. The Vertex can carry 140 pounds, while the SwingDaddy can handle 150lbs. The Vertex has a longer shank, which would place the rear of the upright portion of the rack approximately 14 inches away from the hitch pin hole in the receiver, versus 11 inches for the SwingDaddy.

Both racks are very good products from a couple of top-drawer companies. Either rack would serve you very well. I prefer the design of the Vertex, but if you do not need the additional length of the shank, the SwingDaddy would work great for you. It also has the benefit of the integrated bottle opener for that important after-ride refreshment.

You can take a look at the installation instructions for both bike racks, as well as a video review for each at the provided links.
