Can Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack be Used with a Carbon Fiber Bike

Question:

Is this compatible with carbon fiber framed bikes? If not, what would you recommend for a model that is compatible for use with a travel trailer? On the trailer application it lists weight limit per bike as 40lbs. Does this mean average of the two bikes on the rack or is it each bike specifically? Thanks

The Yakima OnRamp # Y36FR alone probably doesn't have enough padding for it to be safe, but if you use the Thule Carbon Bike Frame Protector # TH984101 you'll be just fine. This protector pad adds some extra protection and helps to keep the frame safe from any scratches or bumps from road shock.

The rack is rated to hold 66 lb bikes unless you are going off-road or installing it on an motorhome/travel trailer - then it is reduced to 40 lbs per bike (not an average). This is just due to the extra movement the rack will experience since the hitch is further back from the tires.
