Does DC Power Converter Need to Match Amperage of Outlets on RV or Desired Charge for Battery

Updated 01/18/2022 | Published 01/17/2022

Question:

So I wanted to get 80a smart converter but I’ve read where need to match it more to trailer then batter charge rate! So trailer is 30a so does that mean 12v 30a smart converter is as high as I can go?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The amp rating of the converters like the Progressive Dynamics part # PD9180ALV do not need to match the AC amp rating of the trailer. The amperage output of these is in DC and is for charging the battery which is DC.
